Participation in EnviroStars Highlights the District’s Commitment to Sustainable Operations

As a utility operating water and sewer services within the Lake Whatcom Watershed, the Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District is especially attuned to the unique and environmentally sensitive environment in which it functions. In line with its ongoing quest to improve operations and employ more sustainable business practices, the District is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded the EnviroStarsSM Tier 1—Leader certification. The EnviroStars program provides environmental assistance and recognition to Washington businesses and agencies that implement green practices within their operations.

General manager Justin Clary said, “The District has a long history of pursuing continual improvement of its operations within the Lake Whatcom Watershed. Participation in the EnviroStars program was a natural extension of implementing the District’s mission to lessen our footprint within this special area through improving our sustainable business practices. We consider receipt of the EnviroStars certification as a start, not a conclusion within the program, and intend to pursue incorporation of additional EnviroStars measures in the future.”
