District Receives Platinum Award
Back to Announcements Published on 11/05/2019District is one of four utilities in Washington State receiving award for the Washington State Department of Health’s Treatment Optimization Program
The Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District (District) was excited to learn it again received the Platinum Award for 15 or more consecutive years of meeting the Washington State Department of Health’s Treatment Optimization Program (TOP) regulations. Of the 59 rapid rate filtration plants in operation in Washington State, only four have met regulatory standards since the program’s inception in 2001—and the District’s Sudden Valley water treatment plant is one of them! That’s 18 years of consistently performing above regulatory standards—and ensuring continuous public health protection for our customers. Additional information regarding DOH’s TOP is available at https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/4200/top_poster.pdf.
General Manager Justin Clary said, “The District is honored to again receive this coveted award. I would like to acknowledge our operations staff, whose continued diligence has enabled our water system’s unfaltering adherence to regulatory standards, as well as all District staff that strive day-in and day-out to ensure that the water that is delivered to our customers’ taps is safe to drink.”
