Division 7 Groundbreaking Ceremony

Back to Announcements

The Division 7 Reservoir Replacement Project is underway!

Earlier this month, District staff and guests gathered in Sudden Valley to break ground on two new reservoirs, which will replace an aging reservoir currently in use. The new reservoirs will meet current seismic standards as well as sporting the ShakeAlert® earthquake early warning system. Construction, including removal of the old reservoir, is on track to be completed over the next 18 months.

Funding for the $3 million project includes a FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation grant, a congressional earmark through Representative Rick Larsen, Washington State Military Department Emergency Management Division funding, and a low interest loan through the Washington Public Works Board.

District staff, along with current and former members of the Board of Commissioners, welcomed Sean Connell, Community Liaison representing US Rep Rick Larsen, Public Works Board members and Chair Kathryn Gardow, Washington Association of Sewer & Water Districts Executive Director Judi Gladstone, and representatives from the Washington State Military Department, Whatcom County, South Whatcom Fire Authority, The Firs, the Sudden Valley Community Association, and interested members of the public.
